Here is a short interesting video depicting bad communication skills in our everyday life:

Teamwork is essential for competing in today’s global arena where individual perfection is not as desirable as a level of collective performance. As Babe Ruth said, “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.”
Looking back into the past, I have worked in teams in my school projects where the team comprised of the people whom I knew. Last semester in NUS mostly involved individual work. However, this semester all our CEG modules have team projects as part of their curriculum.
I personally feel that working in teams is totally different from individual work. When we work in teams we owe the responsibility of the team’s performance i.e. all the teammates are dependent on each other. At times, the team members may differ in opinion due to difference in working styles, ideology etc. But it is necessary that we understand each other and help one another whenever needed. I think working in teams is an enriching experience as we get to learn a lot from other team members by interacting with them and sharing our ideas.
Today’s increasing global economy places a premium on teamwork and communication. Therefore, I believe that in order to have a successful personal and professional life it is essential to possess effective communication and teamwork skills.

A video is good for bringing the message across. I agreed that listening is very important (as mentioned in my blog). No matter how clear and audible the message can be, or how effective the channel is in sending the message, it can be completely ignored if the receiver is not listening.
The saying is quite meaningful.
I feel that knowing your roles is very important and individualism will not be tolerated in a team. :)
I like your quote "The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime."
To succeed, we need to work together, complement each other and be the best team together.
Hi nitika,
Good choice of video clip. I like the point about not letting your emotions getting the better of you and taking over the situation. When emotions get in the way, it can ruin communication and that is why for teamwork to be effective, we have to be level-headed and speak in a relaxed and calm manner when we feel strongly about an issue. Working in teams as you said is an enriching experience. We can learn, gain knowledge and pick up maybe a few things from every team member who is different.
Hi Nitika, Rayner here.
It was a nice idea to add the video, it really helps to show how bad communication skills can affect how people interpret messages or send messages.
Well, most of the previous project work that we have done are usually in groups that we chose ourselves. (Or at least most that I've experienced...)
But in this semester, and probably in the future too, it was totally random so it probably will be a better test of our abilities to work in a team.
Either way, I find working in teams will test and help improve our abilities to adapt to different people and their individual styles/methods.
Hi Nitika,
Nice post!Your video effectively demonstrates how bad communication can cause different interpretations of the intended message. This can sometimes have really disastrous consequences.
I agree with you that team work is different from individual work as you have consider everyone's opinion and each member owes the responsibility for the team's performance.

Hi Nitika,
I like how you reflect on your past experience with teamwork. It helps me recall on what I'm missing in my teamwork and communication skills as well. You have also done a good job on relating how important these skills are to today's society. Your video gave me a good example of how serious bad communication can lead to.
Hi Kelvin,
Thanks for appreciating my efforts. I will continue my efforts to write better posts in future.
I do agree with you that while working in a team we must not be individualistic and learn to be a team player.Teamwork is a combined effort of all the team members involved towards a common objective. So we must learn to work with people , understand them and co-operate with them.Hence individualism should always be avoided.
It is also very necessary to know your role in the team and play it efficiently. Until and unless you know your role you cant work towards it. So it is of utmost importance that every member knows exactly what is expected of him and what he needs to do to accomplish his/her task. This helps in avoiding confusion and conflicts in the team.
Thanks

Hi Byron,
I also think that the quotation is a very apt way to describe teamwork.
Until and unless we learn to work with each other in a team we cant succeed however good we might be individually.A team should be such that the team members complement each other. They must realize their role in the team and understand each other. Co-operation is also an important factor while working in a team.
Sometimes there will situations when you need to step back and give yourself time to think and evaluate. But do not let emotions rule you. Learn to be a team player(even though it is not so easy). Success will surely come to you.
Thanks

Hi Ganesh,
It's nice to hear that you liked the video.
I acknowledge the fact that emotions can sometimes come in your way. So we should know how to control our emotions. When you are angry you would want to shout or yell at the other person but you often over react in anger and mess things up. So it is better to control yourself and give yourself time to cool down before reacting.
I think that in a team the team members should complement each other so that the team works nicely. In this process we get to learn a lot from our fellow mates so it is surely an enriching experience.
Hope to receive comments from you in future.
Thanks

Hi Rayner,
Thanks for commenting on my post and giving me suggestions.
I agree with you that working in teams will help us improve our skills of adapting to work with different kinds of people. I think experience is the best teacher. There is no way we can learn team work other than by actually working in teams. Communication plays an important role so as to convey your message effectively to you teammates and peers.
I think by the end of this module or maybe our course CEG we would learn to work in a team very well.
I will be looking forward to your comments in future.
Thanks

Hi Meenu,
Thanks for your appreciation and insights into some topics. I hope that after reading my post you have a better understanding of the team work.
As I have already mentioned in one of my replies above, one shouldn't be individualistic while working in a team. One should learn to work in a team and co-ordinate with people. I think when you'll work in a team with your fellow mates you will realize how team works and would understand these things better through your experiences.
Thanks
